Adding a Sediment Filter to your Well System

There are many options on the market for sediment filtration on your well system. These options range from down hole flow sleeve kits to self-flushing units and everything in between. Let’s talk about a few options. First off, the Sand Separator by Lakos. These units are meant to en-case your submersible well pump and filter the water before it comes into your submersible pump to protect from clogging of sediment.

The Lakos Sand Separator dramatically extends the life of your submersible pump, saves energy and removes sand from your well water with their patented protection separators. These units use centrifugal action to remove troublesome sand from the water before it can enter the pump, damage impellers and go downstream to your home or ranch water supply. The units are installed around your submersible pump and can be installed into water wells within inner casing diameters as small as four inches. Lakos offers flow ranges of 3-99 GPM and larger for commercial or agricultural options. Contact our team at Heritage Well Service to discuss how a unit like these could be used in your installation.

Another product we trust and often install is an also manufactured by Lakos and is called the “Sand Separator.” These are used in smaller flow rate systems and are very popular for removing sand, grit and other fine solids for your water system and effectively remove 98% of particles that are 74 microns and larger. For systems

with metal shavings and lead chips the results are event better. The Lakos ILB centrifugal style of filtration are super-efficient and trouble free in their design. In fact we often install these on well systems where our clients well pump feeds directly into a storage tank. They are safely installed before a pressure tank and will not cause dreaded “dead head” on the pump system as long as they are cleaned regularly.

This unit offers flow ranges between 3-290 GPM with a maximum pressure of 150 psi. They are great because there are no moving parts, no screens, cones or filter elements to clean or replace and there are zero downtime requirements. They even offer a self-flushing valve system that can be programmed to automatically back flush on a schedule of your choice. They come in different material options including carbon and stainless steel.  If you’re are interested in learning more about these options feel free to reach out to our team to discuss your system needs.

Finally, another common, low-cost option is a “Twist-2-Clean” option that offers homeowners a simple solution to capture sediment in their water system. These units offer patented technology to capture sediment. They start as small as .75” and increase all the way to a 2” connection and are able to process up to 150 GPM. They are relatively inexpensive and are easily flushed manually. These units are our trusted option to provide reliable sediment filtration and are meant to be installed on the “pressure side” of the system.

Our team at Heritage Well can help you select the best option for your system based on the installation and requirements you need to provide sediment free water to your home and property. Give us a call at 951-763-2210 and we can discuss your needs and budget to provide recommendations.
